high hopes

i bought this cube thinking it was going to be almost like a square-1, and it is except that its the crap knock off. when it arrived it came in the worse packing ever not even protected from anything and it was broken, something was bouncing around inside of it. When i started to scramble it the bottem slice was almost impossible to turn and when it is scrambled you have to grab the slice and force it to turn, its impossible to take apart to try and llube it. All in all DO NOT buy this it is horrible it isnt worth it just go to a better site and buy an actual square-1 it might be more money but it is worth it. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS

Passable For the Cube Completionist, But The Worst Cube Puzzle I Own

I thought this would be a cool addition to my Rubik’s-type puzzle collection, but it’s just not that great. First off, the quality of the manufacturing is very poor. As others have mentioned, you can’t cut corners at all or you’ll break it. It’s also very stiff, I had one of the covers come off (I needed to glue it back on), and it just generally feels crappy in your hands.

Secondly, the puzzle itself isn’t that exciting. Yeah, it’s pretty complex, but the only real “move” is to position the top and bottom layers, and then perform a “reversal.” That is, the middle layer has only one axis, and that’s the only way to move about pieces. Having the space of moves closed off like this makes an interesting change from the classic Rubik’s, sure, but at the end of the day it leaves me much less satisfied than the classic Rubik’s where the construction and concept of the puzzle is so simple, but the number of ways you can solve it is so interesting and complex.

If you already have every other Rubik’s-type puzzle, fine, go for it. You’ll probably get some enjoyment out of it. If you only have the classic Rubik’s cube though, go for one of the larger variations or the excellent Rubik’s Mirror (Amazon doesn’t have it as of this posting – Google knows all though). If you don’t even have a Rubik’s cube, start with the classic.
